I was hunting for a Xerox scanner and found the Xerox DocuMate 162. I am still thinking if this is the best scanner for me though. So for the meantime, I am going to write about Xerox DocuMate 162.

First, I like how it looks. It’s not too bulky or too small. It can fit perfectly on the unused table I have at home. Aside from the appearance, I also found a number of good things from this seemingly simplistic scanner.

Here’s a quick look at the functions of Xerox DocuMate 162.

This Xerox product can scan your documents at 25ppm in simplex. In addition, it is possible to convert your scanned documents into PDF files through the One Touch® feature. Furthermore, your documents from the Xerox Documate 162 will be scanned without imperfections even if the original is not perfect itself.

Now that we know some features of the Xerox DocuMate 162, here are the minimum requirements if you’re planning to get this scanner.

  • USB Port
  • DVD-ROM drive
  • 350MB of available HD Space
  • Pentium® IV or equivalent processor
  • Windows® 2000 (SP4) / XP (SP2) / Vista
  • Minimum of 512MB of RAM (1GB for Vista)

Choosing the right Project Management Software

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Choosing the right project management software is crucial especially if your staff aren’t that keen with experience in using such a software. There are a lot of things to consider in choosing the right one for your team.

Project management software are usually used to delegate tasks to colleagues and subordinates so that they can easily access these tasks and mark their progress and completion as required. Project managers can easily track the progress of the projects that they handle through the software.

It is well understood by many that a good project management software is indeed needed if you want to succeed in your business. It keeps your work flow organized and your tasks well delegated. It is exhausting, though, with the wide range of choices in the market right now, to choose exactly the right one for your business.

Here are some tips for you so you’ll buy the right one:

First, ask yourself “what is it exactly that I am looking for?” Am I just looking for a basic project management software, am I looking to expand my business in the near future, or am I looking for a high-end portfolio management solutions software? What are my specific project management requirements? How big of a database am I looking at?

After answering these questions, then you can narrow down your choices. Project management software are divided into basic, mid-range and high-end categories. Basic ones are for small enterprises with limited number of employees and have a very small market share. Mid-range solutions are for mid-size enterprises looking to expand soon and are for companies that would require growth planning. High-end solutions management are usually used by companies with global operations or are gearing towards that direction.

There are a lot of project management software out there, be it expensive or within the budget, finding the right one will make your day-to-day project management life easier.

The Ipad in a nutshell

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

The first time I saw the Ipad I knew I had to have it.  It’s a bigger Ipod touch which I thought was so much better because I can watch movies with much clarity with it, play louder music because it has a built-in speaker.  I looks sleek and it performs just like a Mac… almost.    At least that’s what I thought.  The Wifi + 3G version actually has the same capabilities as the Iphone, which made it more attractive to me.

But then it became funny.    I know there’s such a thing as a headset, but this big a contraption to act like a phone is funny.  Not just funny it’s hilarious.  Imagine forgetting your Bluetooth headset and you’re in the middle of the street and you have to answer an important phone call.  This 9.56 x 7.47 massive phone rings and you have to pick up… you either put it near your ear or put your caller on speakerphone for the whole wide world to hear.  Imagine having to answer a text message.  My list can go on and on about the funnies.  Talk about going back to the early 90s wherein the cellphones were as big as rotary phones with cords and all that jazz.

Looking at the brighter side, the features of the phone are tempting.  The price, even yummier.  But hear yeh, Apple lovers, let’s be practical.  Just buy a MacBook Pro.  And keep your Iphone… so I won’t laugh at you.

df163 info “Database Backup Software”

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

When it comes to database backup, it is necessary to remember one important issue. Manual database server backup requires advanced database operation skills. Moreover, database software in most cases has no built-in instruments to perform backup of the bases. So nothing to talk about database management application’s settings backup by built-in resources. How to find adequate solution in today’s storage environments?

Database backup software specially developed to solve such problems in most effective and reliable way can be the best solution to create reserve copies of databases. Database backup software can be specialized like, for example, SQL backup software, but usually combines features to backup different database types including ODBC compatible databases such as MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle, DB2 and Lotus Notes/Domino.

Database backup software provides functions to perform backup automatically on regular basis using scheduling. Therefore, with such useful application you can set up task properties once and then have a free time while data backing up automatically.

In addition, the last but very important issue to say about database backup software abilities is of course remote backup. Remote Backup Service by Novosoft is example of perfect online backup software, which functions provide ability to backup databases listed above to remote location. This is inevitable option to enhance data protection by transferring databases to secure offsite server where it cannot be stolen or lost in case of disaster. Data on remote server is accessible to database backup, recovery and synchronization in any moment.
